PROJECT 1 : ‘LIFE BETWEEN BUILDINGS: USING PUBLIC SPACE’ CASE STUDY

Project 1 is a group project which consists of 11 students in a group. The grouping of the students is as same as the Architecture Design Studio V grouping. The aim of this project is to enable students to understand on basic urban forms, social, cultural and intellectual context of a city that are relevant to architectural and urban theories. In this project, each group would be given a city for the case study, as for my group the city given to us was Bugis Street, Singapore. We were required to select a street within Bugis Street which is Victoria Street and conduct an analysis on the street. Our group are supposed to analysis the urban forms and context, human outdoor activities, social and cultural contexts of Victoria Street based on the book 'Life Between Buildings: Using Public Space' by Jan Gehl. For this project, We are also required to produce two presentation boards that clearly illustrate our analysis and researches on Victoria Street of Bugis Street.


PROJECT 2 : SYNOPSIS REACTION PAPER
Project 2, synopsis is an individual project which required student to write a total of four synopsis reaction paper essays. In this project, student is first required to read four articles which argue on four different theories and idea of architecture and urbanism. After reading the four articles, student is then required to analyse the four articles and develop a commentary based on own personal opinion by writing the four synopsis reaction papers. The synopsis reaction papers are written in order to express my personal perspectives, experience and opinions relevant to the theories of the four articles.
PROJECT 3: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS ESSAY
Project 3 comparative analysis essay is an individual project and also the final project of this module. This project required student to write a 2000 words comparative analysis essay to compare two cities of Bugis Street (Project 1 case study) and Medan Pasar (Design Studio Site). The content of the essay is about analysis comparison of different patterns of human activities, types of contact points, social and cultural context and different contact intensity levels of the two cities. The main purpose of this project is to analysis and compare in terms of the similarities and differences of Bugis Street and Medan Pasar.
