BUILDING MATERIALS
PROJECT 1: SOLID VS VOID - SHAPING LIGHT AND SPACE
In the first porject, Solid vs Void - Shaping Light and Space, is an individual project. This project required me to design and make a model within an imaginary volume of 30cm X 30cm X 30cm from any form of basic shapes and materials that are listed on the brief. In this project, I would have to use only one shape and three materials with at least one transparent or translucent material for the design of my model. I can use any design concepts for the design of the model but the model has to show space and void within the model. Besides that, I am encouraged by my lecturer to use shape of same modular size and also to play with the light and shadow when designing the model. Moreover, I also have to produce an A2 size presentation board with a storyline of my design concept and orthographic drawings of a plan, an elevation and a section of my model.
REFLECTION :
In the first proejct, I had learned how to play with different materials in designing a model. As for my model, I had chose to use cuboid as the shape and I used bausal wood, plastic sheet and brown board for the materials. My design concept is based on a physics principle called Bernoulli's Principle.

PROJECT 2: MATERIALITY OF SPACE: AN EXPERIENTIAL EXPLORATION
In the second project, Materiality of Space: An Experiential Exploration, is a group and individual project. According to this project, I am required to do a site visit on shopping complexes, shop lots, government or private offices or galleries to identify various types of construction materials within the site. As for the group work, in a group of six people, we have to produce a total of two A2 presentation boards and one mood board with only colour pictures or photographs in it. In both of the A2 presentation boards, we would have to include a brief introduction of our selected site or building, the various types of materials used within the building, drawings of plans, elevations and sections of the building and also the properties and characteristics of the identified materials. As for the individual task, each of us have to select a space within the building individually and produce only one A2 presentation board. In the A2 presentation board, the content must includes the design concept and intention of the selected building and a space analysis of the selected space within the building to identify the materials and their applications within the space.

REFLECTION :
In this project, in a group of six people we decided to choose Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre(KLPAC) which located at Sentul as our building for the site visit. We had visited the place for a few times due to some permission problems from the art centre's authority and also for us to explore and experience more on the materials within the art centre. Besides that, we also did an interview with the person incharge of KLPAC in order to understand more on the design concept and intention and also the application of the materials. After we had visited KLPAC and gathered all the information that we wanted, we began to discuss among ourselves to select a space within KLPAC for our individual task. As for myself, the space that I had selected is the entry walkway of KLPAC and the materials that I have explored are tempred glass, steel, cemented concrete, red fire clay bricks and paint. In the process of doing the group work, our group leader had divided the task for us in order for us to complete the work in time and efficiently.
OVERALL REFLECTION :
In this module Building Materials, I had learned many different types of contruction materials that are commonly used in contructing either exterior or interior of a building. Besides that, I also learned the physical and chemical properties, applications and advantages and disadvantages of various types of building materials. Moreover, I had gained many experiences in doing the two main projects of this module.
