REFLECTION:

In a group of six people, this project required us to construct a temporary bus shelter by using the proper tools and connection methods. Important structural components of wall, floor and roof have to be included in the temporary bus shelter. The design form of our bus shelter was derived from the combination of a triangular prism and a cuboid. Besides that, we are also required to produce a report which clearly explains the details such as materials, construction method, joints and connections, load and stresses diagram, construction progress and technical drawings of our bus shelter. In conclusion, through this bus shelter project I had learned that teamwork is very important in order to complete a group project. Moreover, I had also learned many carpentry skills while constructing the bus shelter with my teammates. Lastly, the most important thing that I had learned is about the load distribution of the bus shelter, and also using suitable joints and connections to construct the bus shelter in order for it to withstand loads.

PROJECT 2: UNDERSTANDING FORCES IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

REFLECTION:

This is a group project which involved only two person in a group. The project required us to make a model and produce two A2 size presentation boards with details of either a tensile fabric structure or a grid shell structure. In a group of two people, my partner and I have decided to choose tensile fabric as our structure and the tensile fabric structure that we choose was ASU Skysong Campus located in Scottsdale, United States. Before starting the project, we did some researches about the tensile structure in order to understand the connections of the structure and load and stresses of the structure. Throughout the project we had faced many difficulties, such as we have to figure out the way of constructing the model and the kind of materials used for the model making. But we take it as one of our learning process as we did learned something and gain some experiences from this project. Furthermore, we also did two presentation boards which the contents of our presentation boards consist of an introduction of the ASU Skysong Campus tensile structure, technical drawings of our tensile structure, connection details, materials, construction process, load and stresses diagrams and a typology of tensile structures. From this project, I had learned about teamwork with my partner and also some important model making skills.
